Monster
Monsters. Under the bed, in the closet, hiding in the shadows of the night. Whispering, skittering, and slithering through the dark. Watch all around you, light your way for you, don't know what you'll find. Follow your path; beware of lies for they are a monster that never dies. Claws raking across furniture, the sharpening of weapons. Soft pad falls of silent steps never to be truly heard. Glowing eyes appear in the night, then quickly whisk away. The eerie sound in the room? Breathing? The monsters? Or yours? Another person in the house? Your reflection? Or a ghost? The stars and moon are hidden. By clouds? Or something much more near? Is that the loading of guns and sharpening of knives, the mysterious sounds you hear?
The most dangerous monster lives within us all and should be greatly feared. It causes sticks to become stakes, rain to become acid, shadows to become pits. Yes, the greatest monster of all is the human imagination.
